The deal will see the team receive an office space equipped with an outdoor basketball court

Defending Kenya Basketball Federation champions Nairobi City Thunder have announced a partnership with Africa’s leading technology and insurance company Turaco, which is expected to run till September 2025.

The partnership, which initially began during last year’s Elite 16 Basketball Africa League qualifiers, will see Thunder receive an office space that comes equipped with an outdoor basketball court to support their operations.

On top of supporting Thunder through the 2025 Basketball Africa League, Turaco will also come to the aid of the team during the 2024/2025 Kenya National Basketball League season.

“We are grateful to Turaco for their support,” Nairobi City Thunder CEO Colin Rasmussen said. “This is a company that has inclusion at its core so our values are very aligned. A healthy lifestyle is a core part of sports so it’s also important to us to work with partners that promote wellbeing and make healthcare more accessible.”

Turaco provides simple and affordable insurance products to underserved customers. With more than 3.5 million customers, the company prides itself on the simplicity of its offering and a fast and efficient claims payment system.

Turaco is available to customers through partnerships with top brands such as M-KOPA, Airtel, One Acre Fund, Vision Fund, and Musoni.

“We are excited to be a part of Nairobi City Thunder’s journey and to help inspire young people in Kenya to reach for their dreams,” Turaco CEO Ted Pantone said.

“Supporting this team reflects our commitment to fostering talent, reducing barriers to achieving dreams, and ensuring that everyone can take bold steps forward—both on and off the court. What the team has achieved with the Basketball Africa League qualification is incredible, and we know even greater things are on the horizon.”

In December last year, Thunder also landed a partnership with fintech M-KOPA to support the team during the Basketball Africa League (BAL) Elite 16 Qualifiers that were successfully held in Nairobi.

Bradley Ibs’ side takes to the court this weekend with league matches against USIU and UON Terrors lined up on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
